I arrived at at Keck Hospital emotionally and physically depleted. I was in severe pain and critically ill. Simply meeting Dr. Heckmann, a man of compassion and optimism, lifted my spirits. I no longer felt that I had but one option
which at that time was unacceptable to me. That option was an above knee amputation. No promise of success subsequent to his carefully and completely explained surgical plan was ever offered. Presently I am totally pain free in a uniquely created brace system. Limited to "toe touch" ambulation with a walker I am still receiving daily physical therapy. The PT team pushes but does so with the same Heckmann compassion and optimism. I feel strongly that a very good outcome is around the corner. Why, you ask? That feeling is born in Keck Hospital and made a reality through it's superb limb reconstruction surgeon, Nathaniel Heckmann, M.D.

Dr. Heckmann is an amazing surgeon. I had lost all quality of life because I was unable to walk. Dr. Heckmann attended to my case with compassion and ensured I received full comprehensive care. After knee replacement surgery I have regained my ability to participate in the joys of life with my family. He and his surgical team provided me with excellent care. I can’t thank him enough!

Doctor Heckman is a very compassionate and caring doctor! Basically he gave me my life back! I have was wheel chair bound fir 10 months! He performed an amazing knee replacement! Today I rode my bicycle 25 miles!!! Thank you Doctor Heckman for helping me and giving me my life back!!

Dr. Heckmann is a compassionate and thorough physician. I am a post-Polio patient with six major surguries on my left knee/leg. I currently have a complex situation with C.R.P.S. and plastic particles in my knee joint. He provides the patient with all vital details pertaining to the specific condition. He gives a list of issues that need resolution prior to surgery. Dr. Heckmann presents all topics clearly where the patient understands easily. I have worked with Orthopaedic Surgeons since the mid 1950s and am able to say whether the Surgeon is capable or not. I would recommend Dr. Heckmann to anyone needing an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
